Habit stacking
What it means
Habit stacking is a way to build a new habit by linking it to an existing one: after I pour my morning coffee, I drink a glass of water. The old habit acts as the trigger, so you do not need to remember a new time or wait for motivation. The idea was popularised by the book Atomic Habits and builds on research into how cues drive behaviour.
How to use it
Pick an anchor that happens reliably at the same point of the day and a new habit that takes less than two minutes. Write the stack as one sentence. If the anchor moves around, back it up with a time-based reminder.
Try it: what you write, what LifeOS does
- “every day at 7:30am glass of water after coffee” → A daily reminder at 7:30, right after your usual coffee, that you can mark done or snooze.
