Getting Things Done (GTD)
What it means
Getting Things Done, usually shortened to GTD, is a personal productivity method described by David Allen in his 2001 book of the same name. Its premise is that your mind is for having ideas, not for holding them. Every commitment is captured in a trusted system, clarified into a concrete next action, organised by context or date, reviewed weekly and then done.
How to use it
You do not need the whole system to benefit. Start with the two habits that carry most of the value: capture everything in one place the moment it comes up, and do a weekly review. Add contexts and project lists only if you miss them.
Try it: what you write, what LifeOS does
- “friday at 5pm collect the documents for the tax return” → A concrete next action as an appointment on Friday at 17:00, with a reminder when it is due.
