Glossary: planning, routine and focus terms explained

Two-minute rule

What it means

The two-minute rule is a simple filter from the Getting Things Done method: if something takes less than two minutes, do it immediately, because tracking it would cost more than doing it. Answering a quick message, filing a bill or booking a follow-up all qualify. A second version, for habits, says a new habit should start as a two-minute version of itself.

How to use it

Apply it while you process your notes, not as an excuse to chase every small thing during focused work. If a two-minute task cannot be done right now, because the shop is closed or nobody answers, give it a time instead.
