Executive dysfunction
What it means
Executive dysfunction describes trouble with executive functions, the mental skills that manage everything else: planning, prioritising, starting tasks, switching between them, keeping information in mind and regulating emotions. It is common with ADHD, autism, depression and burnout, and it can make a simple errand feel impossible even when you truly want to do it.
How to use it
Lower the load on those skills instead of pushing harder. Break tasks down to a first physical step, let reminders do the remembering, decide the plan the night before and keep today's list very short. None of this replaces professional support where it is needed.
