Context switching
What it means
Context switching is shifting your attention between different tasks, tools or topics, such as jumping from a report to a chat message and back again. Each switch has a hidden cost: part of your mind stays on the previous task, and getting back to full focus can take many minutes. A day full of small switches feels busy but produces little.
How to use it
Group similar tasks, check messages at set times and keep only one task in front of you. When you have to stop halfway, write one line about the next step so returning is quick. Silence notifications during focus blocks.
Try it: what you write, what LifeOS does
- “every day at 1pm check messages” → A daily slot at 13:00 for messages, so you can ignore them the rest of the morning with a clear conscience.
